The book covers a wide range of extension libraries that deal with multimedia applications using PHP. It brings about a synthesis between the two technologies - PHP & Multimedia. The main focus in this book is on the usage of these extension libraries to develop multimedia content. These extension libraries are Ming, Ming with ActionScript, GD, PDFLib, and FDF. In addition to this, the book also deals with ImageMagick, which is a collection of tools that allow the developer to modify and gather data about images (It is also an API to functions that perform these tasks). These extension libraries provide wonderful ways of completing tasks that would otherwise be impossible to achieve using PHP alone. The book is split into three parts: the extensions, the case studies, and the function reference -- that way someone looking to just read case studies has a definite place to start, and people looking for the descriptions without large amounts of code can read the beginning and the one's who want to stick it by their side for reference, know exactly where to go.
